Hello to all,

I have a question. I am now on a temp waiver at my school. Getting this wasnt a problem BUT no so long ago I went to the lady and asked about getting the FULL LICENCE. She shook her head and said 'mailoo'...and seemed to want to have nothing to do with it. I do know for a fact that no farang teachers at my school have EVER had a licence, so they have never had to get one......so.....

I contacted the son of the owner of the school who is also the Director. There is a 'sister school or 'main' school in Bangkok under the same ownership. Its a much bigger place with many more farang teachers. The director told me that no one had a teaching licence there BUT that he would enquire with the office of that school. Sounds ok I suppose.....

Now, if it takes too long to get something happening can I do it myself? I have a few VERY competent Thai female friends that could accompany me. I am aware that the school needs to provide me with some info, but it cant be much. I get the feeling that the office at my school cant be bothered and that the director may...or may not get around to doing anything.

I have ALL the quals necessary (minus the magic Thai Culture Course)

Whaddayareckon?

Very much possible to do it 'alone'. Would go further that the full license is the responsibility of the teacher and not the school. It is your license, not the school's. I don't really see as why it would have anything to do with the school save for the letter confirming that you are employed there and have been for x years.

You will need a letter expressing that you are have worked at the school since xxxx, but that is it. I did the rest alone. Just stay friendly with the mailoo brigade since the licence will most probably be sent to the school.

You will need the culture course, how you will get this is the next challenge.

Good luck

I wondered about this.  My school was very eager to get me licensed and I was surprised that Spidey's was not.

Then I recalled that my "farewell letter" stated that I'd worked for them for one year, not six.

Hold that thought.

My old school does not willingly pay severance.

Hold that thought, too.

BF and t-patz seem expert in these matters.  Is it possible that not writing the letter that the teacher has been with the school for x years, &/or that the teacher isn't licensed, somehow help the school dodge paying any severance pay?

You will need to be employed at a school and completed more than 365 days there. A formal letter from the director.

Submitting the paperwork is not a formal affair in bkk. A tiny window with a clerk quickly checking preliminaries. No need for her imo.

See if you can get an officer in the North Korean army to tag along. Those goose stepping zombies have medals on their jackets like they're armor plating. Not all of them fit on the jacket, so there are medals on their pants as well.

Hello all,

I'm in a difficult situation ( as usual?) and wanted to let you guys know why I wasn't able to apply for the license yet and I've also got some questions.

I'm working for an agency, but luckily, the school has also made a contract with us that we can apply for a work permit. Unfortunately, did the headteacher ( a woman who's really against foreigners) tell me that she's not going to do that and I should talk to my agency.

A few months passed by and I finally found a way to be successful. I just came back from the assistant director's office, we know each other for many years from the time when I worked there for another agency about 9 years ago.

I've started there in June and I'm aware that TCT won't be satisfied with such a short time. I was pretty straight with the assistant director when I asked him if he'd help me. No problem were his words.

I just came back from his office and the less time won't be a problem. He'll write 720 days in, so I'll be fine. He told me that I'll get it back next year...

I'm planning to go to the TCT in person, so here are some questions:

My TOEIC expired two months ago, should I sit for a new one when I apply for the license?

What about the Thai culture course? I've got one that's valid from 2008, issued by the Private Teacher's Association of Thailand. Would they tell me to come up with a new one?

I'd like to wish you a very nice and healthy New Year 2018, Happiness, Peace and good luck with your jobs and families.

Thanks a lot for any answers.

The culture course doesn't expire and is no longer needed. You have post grad teaching qualification so that is a non-issue.
The TOEIC needs to be valid so you will need to resit it.

Thanks ttompatz. Then I must plan a few free days once I've got all my documents together. The assistant director who helps me also gave me his card with a name on it.

That's his friend, regarding his words, a big shot with a Dr. title at Khurusapha. " If there's a problem, please tell them to call him went down like a good German wine from my area.

I'd think that I could give them a new Toeic after applying for the license?

I'm just trying to sort out that i don't miss too much school time, as i don't get paid when I don't work.

My son just walked in with a brand new 24 Samsung Monitor, because my old one started to show signs of dying soon. Life's good. Best regards.

P.S ttompatz, I've missed you only a few minutes of your youtube session, teaching in Thailand. Please let me know whenever you're doing a webinar again.

I keep myself pretty busy with computing courses and other stuff.

It's sad to see that I'm the most posting member again? I don't want to be on top of the list, sorry. thumbs up 2

You need the TOEIC when you submit the application (it is one of the required forms).
The license application doens't take long.

If you have everything else, do the TOEIC on Wed., pick up your result Thursday morning and apply for the license on Thursday afternoon.
