We've bought a house and we've bought a scooter. Now it's time to get our driver licenses.

Bad news - good news -bad news -bad news

In my infinite wisdom, I managed not to get a California DL while in California earlier this month in spite of having an appointment at the DMV.

I found my old motorcycle license from Chiang Mai.

It expired nine years ago.

The gov't. offices are farther than I care to ride a scooter.

Thai Visa and Buriram Expats are both helpful boards. I've gleaned that my first step is the residency certificate. If anybody wants to offer pearls of wisdom, feel free.

My Thai spouse will also be on a quest for a DL - her first ever.

Not yet, but I might be getting close.

We spent the day today at the Land Transport Office (DMV) and I got as far as turning up with all the necessary documents and then passing the written test.

Tomorrow I'll rent a bike and try the riding test.

I passed the riding test, somehow.

I had to return to pick up the DL due to some problem in the office.

I got five years.

All you have to do is ride? Wow! :- )

Congrats. Someone posted that it would be much more difficult now than in the past due to changes. You didn't experience any great obstacles?

I had a Thai license, I had a yellow book, and I had a Thai wife. No obstacles.
